PROCLAMATION OF COUNT TEUDBALD VON INBERG TO THE INHABITANTS OF THE ISLAND OF ALVALD

Inberg, the First of December, Year 204 from the Congress of the Sovereigns of the Continents

To the Loyal Inhabitants,

A great calamity and unspeakable affliction has descended upon us, the same that has already devoured many parts of the Kingdom. As you yourselves have seen or heard, upon the coasts of the continent there gathers a vast army, embarking upon ships of the sea and vessels of the air, preparing to stretch forth the bloody hand of revolution against this peaceful and faithful island.

It grieves us even to speak of those abominations which have seized the King’s lands where the pestilence calling itself a “Republic” has swept. There, all order is overturned; neither nobleman nor master is honoured; titles bestowed by His Majesty the King may not even be spoken; and over men raised by the personal grace of the Sovereign now command so-called “deputies of the people,” elected by the rabble of the streets. In such a perverse world, it is no wonder that werewolves daily assault innocent men, women, and children, no longer waiting for the hour of the full moon nor for their transformation into beasts, but committing their outrages in broad daylight, in their very anthropomorphic form, emboldened by a monstrous régime that relieves them of shame for their criminal nature. One such brute, a certain Wolf Schmeck, dares to style himself minister of health in their mock-government, and violently compels the King’s subjects to receive vaccines containing the substance of the cow, that their flesh may become akin to beef, and thereby more savoury to the wolves. And the bloodthirsty vampires, who feign enmity with the werewolves, are in truth their confederates in a common plot to cast down the legitimate rulers of all realms.

People of the King! His Majesty King Alphons summons you to stand against this pestilence, that our island may prove the rock upon which the enemies of the King, of order, of good government, and of ancient custom shall be broken. With us stand the honourable men of Tildeland, and the men of Bautia — cold perhaps, and distant from us, yet fearless in spirit. Their kings, in obedience to the decrees of the international congress which two hundred and five years ago brought an end to wars and bestowed peace upon the world, have dispatched them to uphold the legitimate authority of Guntreland and to join us in chastising the brigands for their crimes. The King of Neuland and the Senate of Hederven have lent their succour by sending their ships and sailors. The Archkingdom of Sigisland, bastion of tradition, culture, and enlightenment, whose Archking and Heir laid down their lives in fulfilment of the sacred duty assigned them by the world’s congress — namely, to be the first guardians of peace and order wherever these be threatened — is with us in heart and soul. The King’s subjects throughout our continent, who tremble beneath the terror of werewolves, vampires, and vagabonds, look to you with all their hopes.

Forget not that your island is the last bulwark standing between the criminals and the King, and that it is your solemn duty to defend His Majesty, even at the cost of your lives. Show that it is not without cause that upon the banner of the royalist army the greyhound of Loyalty is emblazoned, destined to throttle the cunning and perfidious republican fox. As your lord, I expect of you that you prove yourselves worthy representatives of our island before the King and before history, in these grievous days now upon us.

In anticipation of the invasion of brigands and villains, and by virtue of the authority of the lord of the island of Alvald, I hereby proclaim martial law over the whole territory of the island. All traitors who shall give signals to the criminal host or otherwise abet the invasion shall be hanged. The same fate awaits all who shall be found in acts of brigandage that spread disorder within my domain.

Honour the King, Gentlemen!

Teudbald, Count of Inberg[1]

[1] In his newspaper "The New Regime", Hermann Hensher disputed that Teudbald Inberg was the author of this proclamation, since the signed "is known as a frivolous and disinterested idiot for whom it’s questionable whether he wrote anything in his life, except for the unvirtuos letters he sent to his mistresses."
